Peter Caligiure

Fairfield Football Officials
Pete Caligiure has been officiating high
school football for 59 years. He graduated
from Warren Harding High School in 1947,
where he played the center position on the
school’s football team.
In 1952 he married his love Mona McClune
and was blessed with two children, Pete and
Robin.
In 1958, Pete began officiating football as a
member of the New Haven Football Officials
Association and was one of the original
members of the Fairfield County Football
Officials Association when it was formed in
1964.
He worked the umpire position with his
dear friends Ed Connolly, Pete Briggs and
Dave Jesierny. Throughout his officiating
career he was assigned to several local and
state championship games.
For many years he served on the Fairfield
County Football Officials Association’s Board
of Directors as a district representative.
During the 70’s, he also officiated high
school baseball and basketball.
Working as a carpenter, Pete began
teaching his trade at Bullard Havens
Technical High School in 1974. Pete’s
students enjoyed and respected having him
as a teacher calling him Mr. C or Mr. Cal.
During his time at Bullard Havens, Pete
spent five years as the coach for the girls’
basketball team.
Pete retired from teaching in 1988. Pete
retired his whistle and stepped off the
football field in 2007.
